Mission Statement – To provide communication and on-line access to all services offered in the Bartlett Public Library in a timely manner, keeping all individuals in mind, young or old, computer novice or expert.
Kathy Van Deursen became our librarian on January 5, 2009. She immediately immersed herself in this position that is so vital to the growth of the community. Undoubtedly, most of you have enjoyed her friendly advice and the interest she has for all patrons. She never stops learning by attending conferences and workshops. Kathy has lived in Bartlett for 19 years and is active in all aspects of the valley. As an English Literature major at Bates College she developed a strong interest in libraries and literacy. You might remember her name as the top skier for the Mountain Meisters racing series at Cranmore. She has coached the middle school ski team at Josiah Bartlett and the JV division (8-10 year-olds) for the Attitash race team and plays hockey in the women’s league at Ham Arena. In April 2011 she organized the wonderful special event IT’S NOT ABOUT THE HIKE that brought an audience of over 60 to the JBES cafeteria. Kathy is doing an exceptional job! With the help of Meg Murphy she has begun a teen group that meets regularly.
Elizabeth Kelsea, assistant librarian, began working with Kathy in September, 2010, on Saturdays and one other shift a week. She has lived in this area since 2006, has three children, six grandchildren and a 15-year-old Weimaraner.
Zarvin Shaffer was also hired in September, 2010, and serves as a substitute on an as-needed basis. He is an avid and voracious reader of history, mythology and sci fi.
Kathy is thrilled to have the support and assistance from both enthusiastic assistants Please do not hesitate to ask for their help with any situation. If they don’t have the answers they know how to get them!
The Friends of the Bartlett Public Library work to implement new programs and fund special events. In 2010 Facebook was added. With the help of six03 Studios the web site was revised in 2012.
