It may be a wet summer at the Bartlett Library! Young readers, pre-school through grade 5, will follow the theme “Make a Splash. . .READ!” They will hear a story, do an activity, have a snack, and check out and record books read during the summer. If you want to know what kind of “watery” events there will be, come on Tuesday mornings at 10, from July 6 through August 10. There will be rewards for summer reading.

Adults and children are invited August 3 to see, and participate in, the Hampstead Players presentation of “Treasure Island”. Come to the library, and jump right in.

The Trustees of the Bartlett Public Library have an opening and invite all interested parties to contact the library for additional information. This position does not require a lot of time, on average one meeting a month. Please give it some thought, we would love to have you!

Recap of April 13, 2010 Book Discussion

The Friends of the Bartlett Public Library enjoyed a lively presentation given by Frumie Selchen discussing the book, Look To The Mountain by LeGrand Cannon. This book “is one of the most popular and enduring American novels of the past century. Published first in 1942, it has remained in print-appearing in seven different editions with two dozen reprints-and has sold over a million copies. The book’s history testifies to the continuing appeal of the novel. It is an enthralling epic of the men and women who settled the New England wilderness.” (Amazon)

The audience was well versed in New Hampshire history with many native residents who could add information that enhanced the characters in the book.

Many compared this story to the story about Hayes and Dolly Copp that the Friends read and discussed last year. After the discussion, attendees enjoyed cookies and other goodies prepared by The Friends.

This program was part of the New Hampshire Humanity series which will continue on May 11, 2010 with the discussion of the book—AMOSKEAG: LIFE AND WORK IN AN AMERICAN FACTORY-CITY by TamaraHareven and Randolph Langenback.

You may choose an author for a substan- tial savings by having the library purchase the title at wholesale cost. A book plate with your name inside will be inserted and you are the first to read the novel. This not only helps defray the cost of books for your library but it is a wonderful way to support your local library!
