Black History Month

February is Black History month, established in 1976 by Carter Woodson. In 1975, President Ford issued a Message on the Observance of Black History Week urging all Americans to “recognize the important contribution made to our nation’s life and culture by black citizens.” In 1976, ASLAH, the Association for the study of African American Life and History expanded this commemoration of Black history in the United States from a week-long observance to Black History Month.  Stop in to the library to have a look at our display recognizing this observance and pick up a classic title for your February read.

Complacency: One Man’s Story – Edward Minyard 3/12 @ 7pm

Please join us on Tuesday, March 12th at 7pm when special guest and local author Edward Minyard will be in the library to discuss his book Complacency: One Man’s Story.  As George Epstein recently wrote in the Conway Daily Sun, “Eddie’s book is meant to be read on two levels.  It’s a Tom Clancy style thriller with a superhero protagonist, and it is a wake-up call to all of us that societal collapse could be right around the corner and we cannot afford to be “complacent” about the risks we face.”  Copies of the book are available in the library.
